Jess Presto, Emergency & Critical Care Manager

As an Emergency and Critical Care manager Jess can combine two of her passions in life, animals and team building. Growing up on Long Island, Jess always had a connection with animals. Her mother never said no when Jess brought home a stray kitten from the softball field or nursed an injured crow back to health. Jess began working at an animal hospital at 14 years old. It is here where she realized her passion for working in the veterinary field. After studying anthropology at Guildford College and UNC Chapel Hill, Jess settled in Raleigh NC with her husband Jim. Her husband then encouraged her to follow her heart and begin a career in veterinary medicine. Jess has over 15 years experience in the veterinary field and has worked at both NCSU and other emergency/specialty practices in the Triangle area. For Jess, the true reward of her position is not only to provide exceptional care to her patients but to encourage a collaborative and positive work environment for the staff at Wake.

Gatlin Ives, Client Services Manager

Gatlin Ives was born and raised on a dairy farm in Upstate New York.  Gatlin’s love of animals led to him volunteering for the local animal shelter in his teenage years.  During his time as a volunteer, he began working on various animal cruelty investigations and seizures. This solidified his passion for animal welfare and advocacy.   After over 10 years in animal shelter management and consultation throughout the east coast, Gatlin settled in Raleigh and joined the Vets Pets family at Wake Veterinary Hospital and Urgent Care in December of 2020 as our Referral Coordinator. He is now our Client Services Manager.

In his free time, Gatlin enjoys spending time with his dog, Sadie, a “foster-fail” from his early days working in animal cruelty.   Gatlin also volunteers as a foster for several rescues and shelters in the area and serves on a few boards of various animal welfare groups.
